Based on the popular ASHP training video and workbook, this first course in a three course series introduces the learner to the basics of USP Chapter <797>, describes the purpose and function of the sterile compounding facility, and demonstrates how to maintain a sterile compounding area.
The course is broken out into three sections:
- Introduction to USP <797>. Includes a history of Chapter <797>, “shall” vs “should” requests, policies & procedures, and specific tests required under Chapter <797>.
- Sterile Compounding Facilities. Covers the sterile compounding area, primary engineering controls, ISO air quality,pressure differentials and air flow displacement, segregated compounding areas, and radiopharmaceuticals.
- Maintaining a Sterile Compounding Area. Covers general garbing procedures, hand hygiene, gloved fingertip sampling, media-fill test, cleaning and disinfecting competencies, surface samples, cleaning a compounding area , and use of housekeeping staff.
Each section includes interactive exercises, a Q&A section to check knowledge and understanding, and video clips demonstrating essential techniques and procedures. In total Course 1 includes 21 minutes of video content and the duration is approximately one hour.
