Based on the popular ASHP training video and workbook, this second course provides information on beyond-use dating, offers guidelines for compounding sterile preparations inside and outside of a sterile area, and discusses the labeling, checking, and storing of compounded sterile preparations.
The course is broken out into three sections:
- Assigning Beyond Use Dates. Includes risk levels for microbial contamination, expiration dates vs. beyond-use dates, USP temperature ranges, , point-of-care activated devices, and storing and maintaining beyond-use dates.
- Special Compounded Sterile Preparations. Covers immediate-use CSPs, exceptions, and single-dose and multiple dose containers
- Handling Compounded Sterile Preparations. Covers labeling, USP <797> requirements for final checks, redispensing CSPs, storage and delivery, and transporting CSPs inside and outside a hospital.
Each section includes interactive exercises, a Q&A section to check knowledge and understanding, and video clips demonstrating essential techniques and procedures. In total course 2 includes 16 minutes of video content and the duration is approximately one hour.
