These activities are intended for Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacy Specialists in need of recertification credit.
The purpose of this activity is to offer participants recertification credits for the Board of Pharmacy Specialty (BPS) certification for geriatric practitioners (BCGP) by providing a review of pertinent topics, practice of required skills and references to helpful study resources regarding polypharmacy and medication management in the elderly. The activity will assist the participant in identifying areas needed for an in-depth review.
This module focuses on reducing polypharmacy and improving medication management in the elderly. Faculty will discuss the prevalence and risk factors associated with polypharmacy, analyze the risks associated with inappropriate medication use, learn deprescribing strategies, and revise an elderly person’s medication regimen in order to reduce polypharmacy and inappropriate medications. By reading the selected book chapter, listening to the presentation, and answering the post-activity assessment, the clinician will enhance their understanding and application of these criteria and approaches.
This activity is approved for 3.0 hours of continuing pharmacy education credit. Successful completion of the learning module will provide 3.0 hours of continuing pharmacy education credit.
Board certified pharmacists are eligible to receive 3 hours of recertification credit for completing this module. To earn recertification credit, learners must review the activity content and successfully complete the online assessment by the deadline. Only completed assessments will be eligible for credit; no partial or incomplete assessments will be processed. You are allowed only one attempt to successfully complete this assessment.
Participants who pass the assessment will be eligible for recertification credit in the year in which the assessment was completed.
These activities are part of the ASHP professional development program for BCGP recertification approved by the BPS.
