Target Audience

This activity is intended for pharmacists implementing and providing pharmacist-initiated therapy services including point-of-care testing and diagnostic services for health conditions for which they are permitted by legislation and regulation.

Overview

Pharmacist-Initiated Therapy Microcredentials are self-guided online learning activities for pharmacists seeking to increase their knowledge and skill in providing pharmacist-initiated services for specific health conditions.

A learner will have completed the Pharmacist-Initiated Therapy Corebefore beginning the HIV Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Microcredential.

The HIV Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Microcredential covers the relevant disease state information, testing considerations, and treatment options. Upon completion of the microcredential, participants should be proficient in establishing pharmacist-initiated services and performing the diagnostic services associated with HIV pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis.

Microcredential Requirement

Once a learner has completed the Pharmacist-Initiated Therapy Core and the HIV Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Microcredential educational curriculum, they will have the opportunity to complete the microcredential final exam. Once the learner successfully completes the microcredential final exam (minimum 80% passing rate; unlimited attempts permitted), they will be awarded the Pharmacist-Initiated Therapy HIV Pre- and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis Microcredential.

Learning Objectives:

• Summarize the need for HIV screening and prevention.
• Describe basic HIV concepts, including risk reduction, prevention, and treatment.
• Based on the type of test used, interpret HIV screening tests and counsel patients appropriately.
• Identify candidates for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and/or pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) after taking a relevant history.
• Choose appropriate prevention regimen(s) based on patient-specific criteria.
• Assess HIV PEP & PrEP regimens for monitoring parameters and for patient counseling needs.
• Identify challenges and opportunities to increase HIV prevention use in at-risk populations.

Methods and CE Requirements

This online activity consists of one learning module. Pharmacists are eligible to receive a total of 3.75 hours of continuing education credit by completing this program.

Participants must participate in the entire activity and complete the evaluation and all required components to claim continuing pharmacy education credit online at ASHP Learning Center. Follow the prompts to claim credit and view your statement of credit within 60 days of completing the activity.

Important Note – ACPE 60 Day Deadline:
Per ACPE requirements, CPE credit must be claimed within 60 days of being earned. To verify that you have completed the required steps and to ensure your credits have been reported to CPE Monitor, check your NABP eProfile account to validate that your credits were transferred successfully before the ACPE 60-day deadline. After the 60-day deadline, ASHP will no longer be able to award credit for this activity.
